Cobham is seeking an Antenna Development Manager with strong theoretical and practical expertise in antenna design and development. Creative problem solver who can put solid background in applied electromagnetics research, design, fabrication, and measurement to work creating products. This role reports to the Director of Engineering and is a key engineering leadership position in the design, development of unique and specialized antenna products. This new product development role partners with business and engineering leadership team, while managing a team of top designers. In addition, has responsibilities for continuous improvement and development efficiency.
The ideal candidate is someone with a strong engineering and product development background who has a collaborative and hands-on approach to management. In particular, experience the latest design and modelling tools to produce innovative and cost effective designs that are built for streamlined manufacturing. Must have proven capabilities to work across functions in a matrix organization to streamline and optimize engineering practices to improve development speed and operational results.
Responsibilities include:
Managing cross-functional engineering activities as lead engineering manager for assigned programs, proposals, and IRAD activities. Monitor performed measurements on antennas and related components using network analyzers and antenna pattern measurement equipment. Also perform assembly of prototype hardware.
Assure that technical, cost, and schedule goals are met, while providing engineering expertise and support to operations and other functions as needed to achieve customer satisfaction, revenue, profitability, and continuous improvement objectives.
Personnel management, including recruitment, mentoring, training, development, performance management, and succession planning, to assure that skilled resources are available to support required functional engineering tasks.
Resource planning, including monthly updating of manloading analysis, to assure appropriate assignments for personnel, matching engineering skill sets and capacity to program needs
Management of department expenses, including indirect expenses, to meet engineering department budget.
Assuring that design for manufacturing, design to unit production cost (DTUPC), and design for reliability are considered during all development efforts (in coordination with the NPI Engineering Manager) and that the capabilities of the functional engineering group remain technically current and competitive.
Required Skills and Experiences:
Master's degree in electrical engineering, physics or related field.
Strong background in antenna theory and 10 years leading antenna design programs; including ability to design phased arrays. Management of engineering group for 6 years
minimum.
Experience in antenna hardware build and test including rapid prototyping and iterative methodology.Specifically, knowledge of design standards for various types of antennas including phased arrays, spiral/sinuous, interferometer. Experience with broad band antenna design.
Skilled and active in design and computational electromagnetic modeling using commercial software packages. For example, experienced with 3D electromagnetic modeling/simulation/analysis tools (HFSS, CST, XFDTD), and embedded, miniaturized, low profile, and broadband antenna designs for military and commercial applications.
Familiarity with development stage gate systems. Ability to plan and conduct projects within allotted budgets and timelines; plus lead design reviews and present them to management/customers.
Knowledge of common lab test equipment. Experience creating and implementing antenna performance testing and tuning; including test setup design and calibration.
Demonstrated experience with design for manufacturing (DFM) methodologies.
Strong project management experience involving complex multi-disciplined task. Ability to effectively communicate with customers, government agencies and senior company Leadership.
Critical thinking knowledge to trouble shoot issues, conducts root case analysis, and resolves design issues. Demonstrated ability to quickly review and analyze data, create report, and present findings to panels, groups, teams, or departments as required.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Specifically, ability to effectively communicate with customers, government agencies and senior company Leadership.
Good engineering work practice/ethic, self-motivated, and reliable; Demonstrated ability to deliver on-time and work well with team members as a project lead.
Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
Desired Skills:
PhD in electrical engineering or related field Experience applying Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) optimization methods and Agile project management. Reflector based antenna design and analysis.
Broad band/narrow band feed horn design and analysis.
Familiarity with antenna alignment and bore-sighting techniques. Strong background in antenna testing and antenna range operations.
Experience using various characterization techniques to test and analyze material properties. Such as ferromagnetic resonance, magnetometry, X-ray diffraction, and atomic/magnetic force imaging
History and knowledge in the management of defense and government development programs and associated technology readiness levels (TRL).
Active US government security clearance a plus

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
